SpatulaCity012: Scrubfish & Laurence The Drunkle Bob & Aunt D'Lishus EP OUT SOON!

SPAT012-Label.jpg

Hey there! Just a heads up to let you know that one of our favorite Midwestern production duos, the ones like Scrubfish and Nate Laurence are back on SpatulaCity to follow up their killer Disco Papacy offering that first appeared on The Four Piece Set Sampler Series. We decided that we liked the tune so much that it needed a full release with an EP behind it. The result is the stellar Drunkle Bob & Aunt D'Lishus EP, four tracks of goodness (including Disco Papacy and the never-before-released Acapella to that track) as well as three fantastic NEW joints: Sake to Me, Bar Fly, and Creepin Hoodlums! Check out the samples below, and we hope you enjoy this record as much as we do! Available at fine shops worldwide in July.

SPAT010 & SPAT011 the OF and BY EPs (Remixes OF and BY The Sound Republic)

SPAT010.jpg

SPAT 010 ONE SHEET INFO:
Hot on the heels of the extremely well-received Four Piece Set EP's, Spatula City Records just keeps the ultra high quality releases coming. With their tenth release - The OF EP - it is becoming increasingly clear that the lads at SC are here to stay and have injected a much needed does of excellence to the US House market. That being said, label bosses The Sound Republic (Chicago's Frankie J & John Mork) hand-picked some of their favorite tunes from the Spatula City back catalog and set some of their favorite artists to the task of giving them the treatment. The results are four superjams that will appeal to a wide variety of DJ's. First on on the A1, everyone's favorite Canadian - the one and only Jason Hodges - turns in a stellar remix of TSR's Bumpin Enjoyment that shuffles and grooves its way through the trademark Hodges sub-bass n' jacking beats sound that annhilates dancefloors world wide. Another ace remix and notch on the belt for Jason. The A2 is a remix of Get Loose (Take A Breath) courtesy of Nottingham, UK's amazing Kinky Movement, who are making heavy waves with their own label Replay Records & their close relationship with the Inland Knights, not to mention their stellar production skills! The Kinky lads get all funked-up synthy on that ass and deliver a Chameleon'ed out funk bomb that is just oozing with fun, energy, and late night smiles. Flip the records over for the B1, a remix of TSR + J.Todd's vocal slammer Imaginary Lover this time with what we feel might be the best version yet, delivered by Chicago newcomer's Midway Strangers, who are primed to make a serious splash this summer. Their funky, bouncy, acidic slammer is everything a good vocal tune should be. And finally, last but certainly no least, Seattle superfreaks Jacob London (Bob Hanen & Dave Pezzner) get all conceptual on us and deliver the TSR/Spatula City Macromix, which is a tune created by using the parts from at least four seperate Sound Republic tracks, but that have been chopped and freaked to the piont of being something totally new and totally awesome! All in all, there is a little something for everyone on this record, and it's not to be slept on! Remember: What better way to say I Lover You tha with the gift of a spatula?

SPAT 011 ONE SHEET INFO:
The second in the two-part followup to the Four Piece Set EPs from SpatulaCity Records is “The BY EP” from The Sound Republic, a plate of “lost” remixes that the lads originally made for other labels or (in the case of the Troydon remix) for fun, The BY EP gives these three previously digital-only joints a vinyl home. The A-side is a bangin’ loud 45rpm pressing of The Sound Republic Remix of Tommy Largo’s “Work Dat”, with the funky original having appeared on SpatulaCity. TSR steps in and and delivers a funkier, less tracky bassline jam that really pays off with a wicked jazz-guitar breakdown that gets crowds screaming and a drop that gets butts shaking. The B1 on the flip completely switches the vibe of the record up and is aimed squarely at the fans of the techy nasty Dirtybirdesque tunes while maintaining that funky Chicago sensibility folks have come to expect from SpatulaCity. It’s the TSR Lies Remix of Jacob London’s “Return to Squirrel Mountain”, and while it was originally released on Justin Long’s 2020 VIsion sublabel Dotbleep, it only made the digital version of the EP, and we can all agree that a track this nasty funky squelchy good needs to be on wax! And finally the A2 is an unsolicited remix form the TSR Archives that the boys made years ago as a DJ tool to play out. People reacted so well to the track though that John & Frankie sought out Gallery Music label owner JT Donaldson and got his blessing for the vinyl release of the tune – another good funky bassline and piano driven jam that gets the floor working properly. All in all we are looking at three more proper dancefloor bombers here, each one offering a little something different for everyone’s tastes. The more fragmented things seem to get in house music these days, the more SpatulaCity wants to remind everyone that what we have here is PARTY MUSIC — behave accordingly.

A1 Bobby & Klein - Party All Night

A2 Real Time Hand Motion - Honey

B1 d-T3ch - Meerkat Music

B2 The Sound Republic - Hodge Podge

Write up:
The second plate in the two-part “4 Piece Set” Sampler Series - a double release focusing on highlighting some of the hottest new tunes from up-and-coming artists who have been making major waves in the underground as well as some joints from some established favorites as well. Regardless, the concept of delivering the highest-quality new-school house tracks to kick off the new year in high gear is completed here in Volume 2 of the “4 Piece Set”. The A-side kicks off with the highly-anticipated release of “Party All Night” from French producers Bobby and Klein, chanting “We gonna party all night!” over an infectious groove that kicks things off PROPER! The A2 follows “Party All Night” with Nashville’s Real Time Hand Motion hitting us with their amazing “Honey” tune. ALl the trademark RTHM cuts, edits, and vocal bits come together to deliver a funky analog bassline jam with a really unique dancefloor jam. On the flip, Mebourne, Australia’s D-t3ch turns in the gorgeously funky “Meerkat Music”, a tune that’s been killing danceloors and a vocal that puts a smile on everybody’s face. Not to be missed! And last but not least, label bosses The Sound Republic deliver a tongue-in-cheek tribute to Jason Hodges with a chopped-up tracky jam that jacks through rolling pianos, xylophopne backed with a bass bit that is humanly impossible NOT to dance to. All in all, “The 4 Piece Set EP” (both Volumes 1 & 2) is kicking off the New Year in style!

A1. Who Got It?

B1. Break Ya Neck

B2. Break Ya Neck (Sexual Chocolate Remix)

Official Writeup:
Hot off the heels of the SPAT005, The Sound Republic’s Ill at Ease 10”, the SpatulaCity crew is proud to present some more fresh talent with Real Time Hand Motion’s Prime Time Man Lotion EP! These two have been making major waves with blistering originals and remixes over the last year or so, and “Break Ya Neck” and “Who Got It” are probably two of the hottest examples of what these guys are capable of. Unbelievable studio trickery in the vein of SpatulaCity label bosses The Sound Republic, RTHM deliver funky grooves, dancefloor firestarters, and were without question one of the most talked-about artists at this year’s WMC. This is only the beginning of what will surely be a long career for this Nashville duo. Chicago’s Sexual Chocolate (of Junky Trunk Records fame) delivers a nasty Dubsided-esque wobbly-bassline stomper of a remix for “Break Ya Neck” while the original funks, shuffles, and grooved its way in to the boxes of all of the underground heavy hitters with massive support from DJ Mes, The Sound Republic, Diz, Raoul Belmans, Justin Martin, the Inland Knights, and more. Keep your ear to the underground and know that when you see a RTHM record, it’s a buy-on-sight affair. These two aren’t messing around. Another stormer from SpatulaCity!

Big ups to Chris & Carson on this release! We are super excited about this one, and hope you all enjoy it as much we do.

Promos will be available soon at Primal SF, Tweekin SF, and Gramaphone Chicago.

Your pals,

TSR

Hey guys, we are super stoked to announce the release of SpatulaCity005, a limited edition 10-inch record from your pals The Sound Republic! It's a two tracker pressed louder than loud and the jacket artwork looks wicked. Peep clips of the tunes here, and stay tuned for the release in shops coming soon! We hope you enjoy this one, we definitely had fun making it!

The Sound Republic - GET LOOSE (Take A Breath)
The Sound Republic - Funkyard Junk

And here we go with the official write up:
SpatulaCity 005 rolls out with a super-duper special limited edition 10-inch record from label heads The Sound Republic (Frankie J & John Mork), on an ultra-high quality pressing with full jackets and 2 super-hot joints, making this a record for the collectors as well as the disc jockeys who have come to rely on TSR for slammin' dancefloor material. A return to their roots in funk and jazz, the A side "Get Loose (Take A Breath)"" hits with absolutely crushing beats, a running bassline, and a sax bit that has every partygoer running to the DJ booth whenever the track gets played asking what in the good god they are hearing! Flip the cute little guy over for "Funkyard Junk", a tune that starts with a garbage-can percussion jam that eventually works up in to some good old down home southern funk, complete with hand-clappin', foot-stompin' hoots and hollers and yet another infectious guitar hook that can only be described as Good Times House Music. These two funky cuts still have a fresh and modern sound while maintaining that good ole Chicago vibe that sends the dancefloors in to a tizzy. Receiving massive support from the heavy hitters of the underground, Raoul Belmans, DJ Mes, Diz, Justin Long, DJ Heather, and Bryan Jones amongst others were caning the hell out of this at this year's WMC. Don't sleep on this extremely special limited edition pressing of the fifth SpatulaCity record, yet another quality-minded release from some one of the most consistent names in house music's new school.

Thanks for all your continued support, and we hope that you enjoy the record!

SPAT004: LAMANEX, The Fowl Play EP (2 originals + Scud Blood Remix) Out Now!

Here are samples of the tracks, as well as the official one-sheet writeup. Hope you enjoy it, and thanks again for your continued support!

Lamanex - Turducken Cover (Original Mix)
Lamanex - Turducken Cover (Scud Bloom's Burnin it Up Mix)
Lamanex - Sweet Pheasant

And here we go with the official write up:
Fresh talent from Sydney, Australia's Toby Neal and Illya Cooper aka Lamanex, The Fowl Play EP (SPAT004) will be their debut release, and although this may be the first, we are pretty sure this won't be the last you hear of these two. The A side of this bombastic first release is also the 45-side, and is a slammin-loud pressing of the dancefloor stormer "Turducken Cover", a straight-up jacked-out, bitcrushed, funky house workout complete with nasty vocal bits and a gated piano bit that is sure to get people movin' across a wide variety of dancefloors (and send you home humming the melody as well). Flip the record over for the B1, where Scud Bloom (of Aroma fame) tears into "Turducken Cover" with his "Burnin it Up" remix, delivering something a little more nasty for the fans of Switch and Speaker Junk, and then skip on to B2, with the straight up sleeper "Sweet Pheasant" - another funky track that we think will be getting spins for years to come. All in all, this is an amazing first outing from these Australian lads, and has already been receiving tons of support from DJ Mes, The Sound Republic, Raoul Belmans, Justin Long, and many more. Gobble gobble!
